I don’t know if you’ve ever been scammed or been defrauded, I have!
Apart from my ex business partner who ran away with the cash and the stock from a venture he convinced me to invest in, I have been quite lucky. I know others who have lost their entire life savings. It is a disgusting and immoral greedy practice that leaves people in fear of answering the door, phone, or receiving messages, or emails, even from people who look trustworthy,.
Tonight I was scammed, via proxy!
My step mother called me saying could I help. She is in her 70’s with parkinson’s, and although quite tech savvy, is a little too trusting for her own good!
She told me a friend from the women’s institute had emailed her and said that she wanted to send an amazon gift card to a friend who had recently been diagnosed with cancer, but couldn’t do it.
I told my step mother that there were many amazon gift card scams going about, and was she sure she could trust the person?
She replied in the affirmative, and although I had doubts, especially with the name of the email address, and the strange gift card message, I agreed – for £250.00!
She called back shortly after worried that she had been scammed.
I looked into her emails and instantly got a red flag. The language used in the email was not (as I found out) how an 80 year old would speak!
I couldn’t (and neither could she) believe she had been so stupid to fall for what looked like an obvious scam, but she and I did! And now whoever the scammers behind the email address ‘lespharo1@hotmail.com’ are, they are now enjoying my £250, having created a lot of stress for me, and a lot of fear and anxiety for a very vulnerable person.
I’m not sure what you think, but I know this has to stop. This has nothing to do with poor people in 3rd world countries having nothing and we have so much… My grandparents brought up children in poverty whilst working in Glasgow, and never stole a thing, and contributed to the society, and the economy every day of their working lives.
How dare people scam others out of hard earned cash, due to their greed and lack of empathy and compassion for their fellow humans.
Whilst we could spend a great deal of time discussing their minds, and what caused them to become involved with this level of criminality, I’m afraid that we no longer have the time, or will, or resources to go down that route.
The justice system doesn’t work. Laws don’t work. And the police merely mop up after crimes have been committed.
You could say she only has herself to blame, that she should have read the email more carefully, that there is enough information out there about scams and verifying peoples identities, and that she should stop using the internet, but without trust the whole society would collapse.
So, let’s give her the benefit of the doubt, and say that she thought she was helping a real friend with something (after all the email did come from her!)
So what is to be done with these scammers or other types of fraudsters? Make a complaint? Report A Scam? Tell the Police?
None of those things are going to get my £250 back.
The scammers are now buying £250 worth of goods on Amazon.
Amazon are now profiting from the sale of £250 worth of goods.
The only people who suffered are me financially, and my step mother from fear and anxiety.
As there is no way to effectively deal with these scammers and fraudsters in any way that will ensure they don’t do it again, as we are too lenient these days, it has now been decreed by the United Global Citizen Protection Army that the following penalties will now be applied.
FIRST OFFENCE – 100 LASHES. LACK OF CITIZEN PRIVILEGES.
FUTURE OFFENCES – DEATH PENALTY NO EXCEPTION.
That probably won’t stop them so maybe we do need to analyse the processes that are going on in their brains that enable them to callously steal from people whenever they feel like it.
Citizens beware. Be on your Guard. And hunt down scammers and fraudsters wherever they may exist and shame and expose them. Time has run out for democratic niceties!
But you won’t because you are weak and they are strong.
Time to shift the balance in the favour of the kind and compassionate humans that exist the world over, otherwise how will we evolve into a more advanced society?
I’ll leave it with you.
