Welcome to the island soup company, based in inverkip, Scotland.
we are a unique organisation concerned with supply chains, ethics, and great food!
we seek to source, sail, supply, simmer and serve fantastic soups and homemade rolls from the ingredients of the great farmers of the Scottish islands.
This winter we will be sailing to the isle of arran, isle of bute and other islands sourcing fantastic produce to turn Into hearty warming soups!
All organic. All emissions free. ALL TASTY.
WHY SOUP?
Everyone loves soup! It warms the soul! And rather than shipping produce thousands of miles wrapped in plastic, wouldn’t it be great to have local produce, grown by local farmers, that helps the local economy, sourced, sailed, and served by a local company, for the benefit of local people? For us it’s a no brainer!
For us we want to know everything about the supply chain, who is involved with it and control it in an ethical, environmentally friendly way, that causes the least harm, whilst creating opportunities for local people that go far beyond sailing and soup.
The Island Soup Company is part of the Hounourable Ariana Sailing Company, a philosophical business, creating peaceful prosperity, dedicated to public service, and environmental protection.
We are also obsessed with solar cooking (using solar ovens and generate electricity on board via solar and wind, ,that use the power of nature to prepare our products and work with farmers who are committed to a low environmental footprint.
THE PEOPLE
The island soup company was created by the philosopher Alan Macmillan Orr, who has funded the project himself, and in the beginning will be the owner, sailor, chef, salesperson, but with Alan’s concept of no one left behind, he seeks to create opportunities and interventions for people with low education, family problems, violence and behavioural problems, drug and alcohol addiction, psychological and emotional problems, and give them purpose, social and technical skills, and inspire and help them to develop resilience, compassion, which being on board a small sailing vessel can provide, as well as learning to work with others for a common goal in a stressful environment, and resolve conflicts amicably.
With this philosophical business we seek to create a model for others to follow. It won’t be easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is.
